Essential Mixologist Tools

Posted by Carlos on 6/24/2013 to Cool Wine Accessories
To make delicious cocktails you need not only alcohol but also the right equipment. To be taken seriously as a bartender you are going to need at least a bare bones setup. The same tools are used whether you are a skilled bartender or just looking to set up a home bar. Here are the tools for your trade.

Shaker- Purchase a durable and elegant shaker to make cocktails. This is used for ingredients that don't combine smoothly.

Bar Spoon- Is a long spoon that is used to stir drinks in large glasses Used for drinks like the margarita or martinis

Hawthorne Strainer- This ensures that you remove all the fruit or pulp from a drink.

Bartender Book- Soak up all the knowledge you can from this book as a beginner Use sparingly and not in front of the people you are serving.

Blender- Use for mixing delicious frozen drinks.

Bottle Opener- Every bar needs this. Not everyone drinks twist off products.

Wine Stopper- Not everyone drinks wine by the bottle. Keep a few of these on hand to prevent the wine from spoiling.

Jigger- You can also use a pour count but this is good for precise measuring of liquor.

Cocktail muddler- In order to infuse fresh herbs into your cocktails.

Corkscrew- You will need this to open wine.

Speed Pourer- Buy these depending on how many drinks you will be serving.

Slip Resistant Shoes- You will be able to tell the difference immediately. You can move way more effectively and will never be in danger of a slip and fall.

Bar Mats- These keep the bar from becoming a health risk and an eye sore.

Proper Glassware- This depends on what you will serve. Also have pint glasses, martini glasses, shot glasses, and wine glasses.

Just because you have all the equipment doesn't mean your work is done. Techniques of the mixologist take hard work to perfect. You won't impress anyone shaking a drink that is almost always stirred. Proper drinks are an accepted and celebrated part of our social interaction. Making a delicious cocktail will create buzz and allow people to interact more freely. These bar tools will allow you to fashion the world's oldest and most popular cocktails as well as the ability to create your own. How effective of a mixologist you are will depend solely on your effort.
